You’ve acquired your first holiday let property, you’re excited and you’re keen to get bookings…..where to start?! Presentation is everything when it comes to holiday properties, and with competition as fierce as ever, you want yours to be the one that’s picked by potential guests. Think about are those finishing touches to give your property that little extra wow-factor. This may be something that has you stumped because what accessories represent the best investment to give your rental that little bit extra? To help you out, we have created a list of our seven accessory must-haves when adding the extra finishing touches to your hotel room or holiday accommodation.
- Rugs – You don’t have to dig too far into your pockets when purchasing a rug; find a price you would be willing to spend and start searching. As a property photographer I’ve discovered that there are a variety of home stores to choose from. For example, there are cheaper places like The Range, B&M, Homebase and Dunelm or of course there are always many online shops to consider at all price points. But you absolutely don’t need to spend a fortune. A large deep rug as a focal point can completely transform your room and give it some more personality. Remember that different textures really add interest when staging a room.
2. Flowers and Fruit – This is one of the most cost effective staging accessories you can buy. As long as you pick the perfect colours and arrangements for your room, flowers and fruit arrangements can look fantastic and brighten up even the dullest of rooms. For kitchens, you could fill a large glass bowl or vase with fruit. Brighter fruits like lemons, oranges and apples will make the room feel lighter and add a pop of colour. You could even pick one particular fruit and fill a vase with it, for example if your accent colour in the room is red, then go for a vase or bowl of red apples.
3. Cushions – Whilst shopping for your new rug you will also be able to pick up some new cushions, to really add colour and texture to your room. You may even find a matching set. However, don’t overdo it with too many cushions as this may make your room look crowded and cluttered. If you’re on a budget, you could also look at buying cushion covers to revamp the cushions you already have.
4. Toiletries – There are some beautiful bottle designs nowadays and some lovely toiletries can add just the right touch to your bathroom. It’s worth investing in a luxurious make, or one that fits with the theme of your holiday home e.g. for a sustainable eco home you may choose a local company that makes organic, vegan, environmentally friendly products.
5. Towels – Since we’re on the topic of bathrooms, think about purchasing some good quality towels that match your colour scheme. Fluffy towels are definitely a tick in the right box and holiday guests will often comment on the quality of the towels. Think about how you arrange these too to look really appealing. There are lots of different towel arrangements to choose from, just have a look on Google for some ideas.
6. Bedding – Hopefully this is an obvious one. There’s nothing better than a comfortable looking, beautifully arranged bed to settle down in to. Of course, what you choose will depend on the design theme in your hotel room or holiday home, but think about accessorising with throws and cushions to make the bed look attractive and appealing.
7. Atmosphere – Creating an atmosphere is everything; you want to make a nice calming environment for your guests when they walk through the door. You don’t want to overpower them with an intense fragrance but think about some subtle reed diffusers. Fresh linen smells and lemon tend to be inoffensive and pleasant.
