If you’re fortunate enough to have a real fire or a log burner in your property, you may not realise what a hugely attractive feature this is. Whether your property is a holiday cottage or you’re putting your home on the market for sale; as a property photographer real fires make me excited! I photographed a beautiful holiday cottage recently, and I had so much fun taking numerous great shots of the log burner. I feel they add a homely, warm feel and guests LOVE them. These make great “lifestyle shots”, something that is featured throughout my portfolio of property photographs. However, they can be a bit of a “faff” to clean and you may not be bothered to get the fire ready before I come to photograph your property.
My top tip today, is to place some large church type candles in the grate or inside the log burner instead. As a property photographer, I am going to want to show off your fireplace, but we can create that warm glow of a flame without making a load of mess. You could light these before your holiday guests arrive, or if you’re selling your property then before a viewing.
The other alternative is that we can just scrunch up a few pieces of newspaper and light them just before I photograph your log burner. This will create plenty of flames, and as long as I am quick, then it makes for a great photo. There really is nothing like an open fire or a log burner.
Here are some of my shots featuring log burners. I really feel they add so much to the photo. It helps a guest or a buyer to imagine staying/living in that lovely space. Especially during the winter months.
